Chaulmoogra oil is extracted from the seeds of the plant by the process of steam distillation. The plant belongs to the hydnocarpus family and has a tendency to grow up to a height of 15 to 20 meters. It has got drooping branches which have long leaves. The plant also has beautiful greenish white flowers which look very attractive.

Its pale yellow in color and very heavily viscous.
